THE ROLE OF LITOTES IN EXPRESSING POLITENESS AND INDIRECTNESS IN LANGUAGE
Аннотация
This study explores the role of litotes as a linguistic device in expressing politeness and indirectness across different languages and cultural contexts. By analyzing conversational data and literary examples, the research investigates how litotes contribute to mitigating face-threatening acts and enhancing social harmony. The findings suggest that litotes function as a crucial pragmatic strategy in both formal and informal discourse, emphasizing its relevance in cross-cultural communication.
